There are several functions that can be a factor when someone chooses to wear contact lens. The main purpose people wear contact is because they want to see clearer. This is what we called corrective contact lens. Sometimes, they just did not want to wear glasses which can disturb their movement at work. The other reason why people wear contact is just to look pretty and beautiful. This is what some of us called cosmetic contact lens. When someone chooses to wear cosmetic contacts, they will choose lens that is colorful. Sometimes, the lens will turn their eyes blue, brown or any color that they feel good in wearing it. So, the first type if categorized by function.

The second type is that contact lens can be differentiating by their constructional material. The first contact lens ever created is created using glasses. When it is first created, people that wear it will have eye irritation. So, when this happen, people cannot wear it for long hours. Then, hard contact lens is introduced. Hard contact lens is made of Plexiglas which is more convenient. But there are also some disadvantages of using these hard lenses. Then in 1999, silicone hydro gels were introduced. This is what is now famous under the names of Soft Contact lens. The ‘Soft Gels’ is design so that someone can wear it for an extended period of time.

We can also differentiate contact lens by their wear time. Some contact can be wearing during the day and then removed at night that is before we went to bed. Some contact lens can be worn for continuous night, which is everyday without having to take it off. This depends on who wears it and will add conformability to the wearer.

So, as a conclusion, contact lenses can be categorized their function in which why we wear them, or how they are made of, by their wear time and also by their frequency of replacement, that is how frequent we change our contact lens after we have wore them.
